How To Replace Your
White Lightning Flashtube
The flashtube in your
White Lightning Unit is simple to replace, just follow these easy
instructions. If you have any
difficulties, we're here for you! You
can call us Toll Free at 1-800-443-5542, Monday through Friday, from 9:00am to
5:00pm (CST), and we'll help you.
1.
First, turn your unit OFF and unplug it from your electrical outlet. Wait five minutes to make sure that the unit
does not have any power stored in the capacitors before handling it.
2.
Remove the modeling lamp (it unscrews in
the same manner that a household light bulb would - simply unscrew the base and
lift the bulb out of the unit). You
should use a small piece of cloth or tissue to remove the lamp, as the lamp may
be warm, and you will not want to get finger oils on the outside.
3.
Still using a piece of cloth or tissue, pull the flashtube straight out of the
unit. Remove the three plastic
insulating sleeves and be sure to save them.
They will be used with your new tube and are essential safety pieces.
4. To install the new tube, first affix the
three plastic insulating sleeves onto the legs of your new flashtube. Hold the glass part of the tube in your hands
with the three metal legs sticking out.
Again, you may want to use a cloth for handling the tube. Make sure that the three metal legs are
straight; they may need to be straightened with either your fingers or needle
nose pliers.
5.
Next, line each of the legs up with the socket on the unit, and insert the tube
by gently and evenly pushing down until the tube is seated all the way down in
the unit. Sometimes the middle leg,
which is the trigger lead, wants to bend.
Make sure it stays straight and does not bend around the body of the
tube. The flashtube should fit snugly and not be touching any metal parts of
the flash unit.
6. Slowly, screw the modeling lamp back in
place.
You
are done. Plug the unit back into the
power source and turn it on. If the
flashtube and modeling lamp have been properly replaced, the modeling lamp will
come on, and the OK “Ready” light on the back of the unit will shine green,
indicating that the unit is ready to be fired.
